Sunday Sermon Snack – Saturday

Good morning, everyone! You’ve made it to end of another week. Whatever your plans are today and tomorrow, make them fun and safe. Remember to thank God for his new blessings and mercies today. He’s kept you for another month and deserves all the praise.

I have a sermon snack for you this morning, courtesy of Pastor Vaughan. He spoke about faith last Sunday at our early service. I think you’ll like this.

One of the dilemmas of our faith is that we haven’t grasped that the shield is a person. See Jesus as someone on your side. He is your shield and buckler. Don’t put your faith in your faith because it’s iffy. Put your faith in Jesus. We need a shield wherever we go. We’ve made him out Lord and savior, but have we made him our shield.

When we think of the good shepherd we think of Psalm 23.

“The Lord is my shepherd; I shall not want. He makes me to lie down in green pastures; He leads me beside the still waters. He restores my soul; He leads me in the paths of righteousness For His name’s sake. Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil; For You are with me; Your rod and Your staff, they comfort me. You prepare a table before me in the presence of my enemies; You anoint my head with oil; My cup runs over. Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me All the days of my life; And I will dwell in the house of the Lord Forever.”
Psalms 23:1-6 NKJV

The shepherd is also the door. He sleeps at the door to keep out intruders. We have a Jesus who is that shepherd and will do anything to protect us, to be our shield and buckler. We don’t have to fight our own battles.

We have to personalize this Jesus. Faith and Jesus are not two subjects. Faith is Jesus. Jesus is our friend and he laid down his life for us. Do we value enough what Jesus did for us? We must know we have the victory, but we’re going to fight. Jesus will protect you in your home. The weapons of our warfare are not carnal. We are bombarded from fiery darts from the enemy and reminded what we can’t do. But we can do all things through Christ.

Any man or woman can come to Jesus and become a son or daughter. Let Jesus absorb the accusation. All those charges have been nailed to the cross.  By his own choice he chose to take my weaknesses. He will attack our lions and bears and be our shield like a good shepherd.
