Sunday Sermon Snack – Sunday : Thermometers and Thermostats

Good evening, everyone! This weekend is coming to an end. It was enjoyable and I had a great time with friends and family. I thank God for his new blessings and mercies today and all that he is working on the inside of me.

Let end things with a delectable morsel from last Sunday courtesy of Pastor Josh. You’re going to love this.

Nothing can fulfill you like living life now in Jesus. He gives us a new purpose and vision for our lives. A thermometer is an indicator of heat or cold. A thermostat can do the same thing but it can also change the temperature. God has not called us to be indicators of what’s wrong. We must be salt and light. Salt changes things. Jesus has the power to change the atmosphere we’re in. Everyone wants control, but God gave us self control. We have to control the elements of ourselves by his spirit so we can help someone else. We’ve been given the ability to change our atmosphere.

“With my whole heart I have sought You; Oh, let me not wander from Your commandments! Your word I have hidden in my heart, That I might not sin against You.”
Psalms 119:10-11 NKJV

Sin will keep you from going to God’s word, but God’s word will keep you from sin. A hunger for the word comes from a desire to please him. There is good and evil, no grey areas.

“Now we have received, not the spirit of the world, but the Spirit who is from God, that we might know the things that have been freely given to us by God. For “who has known the mind of the Lord that he may instruct Him?” But we have the mind of Christ.”
I Corinthians 2:12, 16 NKJV

We can take in so much of the world and not realize how much it’s affecting us. God’s answer to how to fix this world is not a refurbished mind, but a new mind, a new way of seeing ourselves in Christ. Many things on TV are from a spirit but not the Holy Spirit. We can’t live in the grey. There are two spirits at work. The mind of Christ is a gift freely given by God. It’s all part of the new creation miacle.

“Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; old things have passed away; behold, all things have become new.”
II Corinthians 5:17 NKJV

It’s not a betterment program but a brand new you. It doesn’t matter where you were when you were lost, but that now your found and made new. Know that what God says in his word is true. He has a grace that will bring faith into your life. God will not let you drown. He will pull you up. You can’t relate with God the same way you relate with people.  Trust him with everything you have.

“And do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, that you may prove what is that good and acceptable and perfect will of God.”
Romans 12:2 NKJV

The world will continue to try to transform you. Let God transform you. God has a way of bringing things out of the dark and transform them and we must trust him in the process. We are not at the place we are by accident. There is a will of God for beach of us. Don’t miss the essence of hearing from God. The mind of Christ will allow us to hear from him. To know his will comes from a new way of thinking. We’re born with the will to self preserve. If we don’t surrender to God’s will we are driven by what we want and we will live a second rate life. We have to start thinking differently about things and allow the mind of Christ to change our thinking.

“Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication, with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God; and the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus. Finally, brethren, whatever things are true, whatever things are noble, whatever things are just, whatever things are pure, whatever things are lovely, whatever things are of good report, if there is any virtue and if there is anything praiseworthy—meditate on these things.”
Philippians 4:6-8 NKJV

You can’t live with both the old mind and the new mind. There’s a peace that come from God when we go through things. There’s a spirit in this world that wants to destroy everything made in God’s image. If you let the junk of this world get in you, it will change you for the worst. Let the whatever list rule your thinking. Have a thermostat capacity in you. That will bring change. If we have the mind of Christ, what is Jesus thinking? Don’t lose sight of this list, we need it to survive. Jesus designed us to be agents of change.
