Sunday Sermon Snack – Sunday : Where Is Your Focus?

Good evening, everyone! How was your weekend? I hope it was a blessed. These past few days have been wonderful. I spent time with family each day and I loved rating with them, talking with them, and enjoying their company. They are another one of God’s amazing blessing. Each person he put in your life is precious. Take the time to be with them.

Today Pastor Don preached a powerful sermon and I want you all to take this with you as you start this new week.
_____
We must believe Jesus is the Christ and came to iradicate sin. It is the heart of man to sin and no one wants to take responsibility for what’s going on. This is why the church is so important. He created us in his image with power and authority, to speak and allow things to happen. Where do we put our focus each day? Situations and circumstances will come. Lawlessness will abound and because of that hearts will wax cold. We have to keep our focus on him.

“Therefore we also, since we are surrounded by so great a cloud of witnesses, let us lay aside every weight, and the sin which so easily ensnares us, and let us run with endurance the race that is set before us, looking unto Jesus, the author and finisher of our faith, who for the joy that was set before Him endured the cross, despising the shame, and has sat down at the right hand of the throne of God. For consider Him who endured such hostility from sinners against Himself, lest you become weary and discouraged in your souls. You have not yet resisted to bloodshed, striving against sin.”
Hebrews 12:1‭-‬4 NKJV

This is a call for faith and godliness. We must be an example for all those who don’t know Jesus. There’s a race set before us. This is a race of endurance.

“These things I have spoken to you, that in Me you may have peace. In the world you will have tribulation; but be of good cheer, I have overcome the world.”
John 16:33 NKJV

We will have trials but when they show up we must look to Jesus.

“For by grace you have been saved through faith, and that not of yourselves; it  is the gift of God.”
Ephesians 2:8 NKJV

Grace and faith are synonymous. Our lives should be a reflection of what Jesus did in our lives. Our example for endurance is Jesus’s endurance of the cross. There’s people watching you. How are you responding to the situation?

“And what more shall I say? For the time would fail me to tell of Gideon and Barak and Samson and Jephthah, also of  David and Samuel and the prophets: who through faith subdued kingdoms, worked righteousness, obtained promises, stopped the mouths of lions, quenched the violence of fire, escaped the edge of the sword, out of weakness were made strong, became valiant in battle, turned to flight the armies of the aliens. Women received their dead raised to life again. Others were tortured, not accepting deliverance, that they might obtain a better resurrection. Still others had trial of mockings and scourgings, yes, and of chains and imprisonment. They were stoned, they were sawn in two, were tempted, were slain with the sword. They wandered about in sheepskins and goatskins, being destitute, afflicted, tormented— of whom the world was not worthy. They wandered in deserts and mountains, in dens and caves of the earth. And all these, having obtained a good testimony through faith, did not receive the promise, God having provided something better for us, that they should not be made perfect apart from us.”
Hebrews 11:32‭-‬40 NKJV

We don’t have to understand everything God tells us to do. We just have to be obedient. We haven’t encountered these things but they still had to faith to believe for things they never saw.

“For He made Him who knew no sin to  be sin for us, that we might become the righteousness of God in Him.”
II Corinthians 5:21 NKJV

We are in right standing with God and we must stand so that others know who Jesus is. We have to believe what the word says. If God did it for them he will do it for us. Faith is an insurance and a believe. Consistently focus on Christ instead of your circumstances. When you enlarge God bigger than your problems you cannot see your problems. You have to get a call bigger than yourself. Let the world see where your focus is.

“Let  your conduct be without covetousness; be content with such things as you have. For He Himself has said, “I will never leave you nor forsake you.””
Hebrews 13:5 NKJV

It’s only when we take our focus off Jesus that we start to sink. Jesus said to follow him. Trust in the one who is able. It’s a message to others that the same God that came through for us will come through for you. Jesus is the champion of life. Because he got up, we can to. There is great crowd of witnesses to show us that we can overcome.

“I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith. Finally, there is laid up for me the crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous Judge, will give to me on that Day, and not to me only but also to all who have loved His appearing.”
II Timothy 4:7‭-‬8 NKJV

The things Paul went through weren’t able to be compared to the glory of Jesus. Weights will keep us from getting to where we need to be. Believers should compare their sufferings to that of Jesus. It doesn’t matter what’s going on in our lives. We aren’t in this by ourselves.

“When you pass through the waters, I will  be with you; And through the rivers, they shall not overflow you. When you walk through the fire, you shall not be burned, Nor shall the flame scorch you.”
Isaiah 43:2 NKJV

We will have troubles in our lives. We must believe that God will provide for us. It doesn’t matter what goes on in our lives, God will raise it up. The word has to be the final word in our lives. Our focus will have to be on God and our promises.

“For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life.”
John 3:16 NKJV

That’s what faith is all about. God will give us what we need to live a successful Christian life. We have to speak the word. God will convict the world when he comes. God is shaking up our lives to get rid of all the things that aren’t of him. Then he can give all that is of him. It will take faith. Will we scale back or stand firm and say what God said? Take a stand so that things around us will change.
