Sunday Sermon Snack: A Vision and Self-Control

Good afternoon, everyone! Happy Monday and Happy Labor Day! I hope you all enjiyed your day and got a chance to rest from your work, if only for a moment. Today also marked the last day to wear white, assuming you follow that rule. It was a wonderful day and I thank God for his many blessings and mercies. He’s so worthy and I give him all the praise.

Today I have a delicious sermon snack courtesy of Pastor Josh. He preached an awesome message yesterday. It was hard to think of a title but I went with the keywords that he focused on. I have a feeling you will love it and share it with others.

To know Christ is to have the greatest privlege on earth. We will one day be together with him. We must learn to make that proclamation over us regardless of what we may be going through. Our bodies and emotions talk to us. We must take truth and establish it in our own hearts through the word and worship. It builds our faith up and helps us to feel courageous. We are born of a heavenly father and that connects us to Heaven. That is our hope. There’s a reason to be generous and give. It’s eternal. It’s by the investments of others that will sow in the the direction of the next generation. God can touch a people in an area. He will do something amazing in this place. When God has an idea he doesn’t throw it away. He works it out. Tell yourself what kind of day you will have based on where you’re going and the people that you will touch by the love God put in you. What we expect effects how we feel in the moment. Expect according to the promises if God.

“Therefore, since all these things will be dissolved, what manner of  persons ought you to be in holy conduct and godliness, looking for and hastening the coming of the day of God, because of which the heavens will be dissolved, being on fire, and the elements will melt with fervent heat? Nevertheless we, according to His promise, look for new heavens and a new earth in which righteousness dwells.”

II Peter 3:11‭-‬13 NKJV

Don’t expect toward the promises of people. When God lives inside of us there is lasting change that takes place. Hold on to that and press forward. Keep your focus or you will lose your momentum. We cannot veer from the path listening to different voices. A wish list is not a substitute for vision. Theres no substabce behind a wish. A vision pulls you out of where you are and keeps you moving forward. It will sustain you through what you will face. Don’t forget that everything around you is temporary. Help others to get into the presence of God. God listens to us and wants to hear a prayer of faith. There’s something real above the realm of this world. God wants to hear our hearts. What moves us will move him. The brokeness of our culture is showing people we need a higher strength.

“Do you not know that you are the temple of God and that the Spirit of God dwells in you?”

I Corinthians 3:16 NKJV

“But if the Spirit of Him who raised Jesus from the dead dwells in you, He who raised Christ from the dead will also give life to your mortal bodies through His Spirit who dwells in you.”

Romans 8:11 NKJV

“Therefore submit to God. Resist the devil and he will flee from you.”

James 4:7 NKJV

The devil wants us to give up but that is a broken way of thinking. We root for the underdog and see ourselves from a broken viewpoint. Jesus took all our sins to the grave and rose up again. His spirit lives inside of us and we must realize the power that we have. We are nore than conquerers.

“And I will put enmity Between you and the woman, And between your seed and her Seed; He shall bruise your head, And you shall bruise His heel.”

Genesis 3:15 NKJV

The serpant is a defeated foe. Look in the mirror of the word to know who you are. We’re not just trying to get by. Paul went through so much and despite it all he presssed forward to God’s calling. The biggest distractions in our lives is changing things we can’t control. People want to control more things. Its in human nature to not be lawed into niceness. We’re here one moment and gone the next. Control gives a sense of deception. We can’t micromanage something that God created. The Holy Spirit gives us the fruit of self-control. When a people doesn’t exercise self government over themselves these things won’t work. There’s a brokenness in how we view life. Jesus’s spirit helps us to selfgovern for the benefit of our bodies and mind. This is all found in his word. God’s only freedom that can come to someone is for us to control ourselves. We need a vision for our lives. God’s vision for us is to share his word with all those that we encounter. It won’t make sense to everyone but it will to you and the Holy Spirit. The vision will help us give sacrificially without regret and take us out of ourselves. The path we walk for Jesus Christ is ours and it’s marked by his blood and no one can take it away.
